This fire started on the 2nd floor right side. 3 Engines and 1 Ladder were on the initial dispatch, but an off duty firefighter arrived on scene called fire alarm stating heavy fire and smoke were visible from the building. Engine 4 did a great job stretching 2- 2 1/2s and giving the exterior a quick hit before the 3rd line a 1 3/4 was stretched for overhauling.
C-4 Deputy Chief Dan Kirouac quickly called for the working fire and then a 2nd alarm. Mutual aid to the fire came from Fitchburg and Sterling. 1 occupant of the building was taken to the E.R. for smoke inhalation and 1 firefighter was transported for glass in his eye. Numerous pets were rescued and a few perished in the fire.
