Shortly before midnight a single 911 came in reporting a fire on Cottage St. A full assignment went out (minus 2 Rescues and a Engine on another run) went out. Deputy Chief Dan Kirouac C-4 as he was approaching the scene struck the working fire with fire showing on the top floor of a 2 1/2 story wood frame multi-family dwelling. Lines were being stretched and the truck was opening up and doing searches. The fire on the top floor apartment contained oxygen tanks there were going off.
With smoke and fire getting heavy up in the attic, a 2nd alarm was struck bringing Fitchburg, Sterling and Lunenburg to the scene. Crews made a great stop and the fire was knocked down with extensive overhaul to be done. A fire detail remained on scene overnight. One woman from the top floor apartment was transported to the ER for smoke inhalation.
