This fire occurred at 114 River Street around 1137pm. The original call was for a telephonic alarm. Upon arrival of companies smoke was coming off the roof. The fire ended up taking the entire strip mall.
Earlier into the fire the wall came down at the Laundromat side of the building while Fitchburg Fire Lt. Michael Gelinas was sitting on a line. You will see a few pictures where it's blurred from me shooting quickly just as the collapse happened. The Lt was briefly shaken but remained on scene. The sprinklers were not working after a water leak a few weeks back.
Numerous departments came in mutual aid to either fight the blaze or cover the firehouses. The fire is under investigation.
