Fitchburg Police were told by a passerby that smoke was in the area of the old BF Brown School on Academy St. Fire dispatched an Engine to investigate but was quickly upgraded to a full assignment. The fire went to 4 alarms bringing in mutual aid from Leominster, Lunenburg, Shirley, Ashby, Devens, Gardner as other towns - Ashburnham, Westminster, Townsend and Clinton to cover the City. The fire burned for over 4 hours before being placed under control.
