Shortly before 1800hrs an explosion rocked the building that sent debris flying everywhere from glass and bricks to wood. After the fire was under control a body was found next to two improvised explosive devices and propane tanks on the 3rd floor of this old School converted into apartments.
Fire Alarm received this as a box alarm and was quickly being followed up with calls for a fire. Acting Deputy Chief Dante Suarez notified fire alarm the smoke could be seen leaving the firehouse. On arrival a rescue from the 3rd floor window on the other side of the building was made via ground ladder.
The State Police Bomb Squad was called in to remove the devices still in the apartment. About 60 residents were displaced by the fire and the building is a total loss.
