A Worcester firefighter was killed and another was seriously injured after they became trapped in an early morning three-alarm blaze Thursday. Firefighter Jon Davies, a 17-year-veteran assigned to Rescue Co.1, died at the scene while Firefighter Brian Carroll, a 14-year veteran also assigned to Rescue 1, was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.Crews responded to the fire at the three-story home at 44 Arlington Street around 4:18 a.m. to find it fully involved with flames coming from the rear. Firefighters cleared 12 occupants from the building and were told that there was another person who may be trapped in a rear back bedroom. Davies and Carroll both from Rescue 1 went back inside to search for the victim when the burning building collapsed on top of them, killing one and trapping the other. Ff.Carroll was trapped for nearly an hour until he was freed from the rubble by fellow firefighters. The city latest line of duty death comes just days after the 12-year anniversary of the death of six Worcester firefighters who perished in the Cold Storage Warehouse Fire on Dec. 3, 1999.
