Shortly after 1400 hrs a call for smoke in the building at 77 Cedar Street came in. The caller sounded frantic which was relayed to Deputy Chief Gary Ranno. Ladder 1 was first due and reported smoke showing. According to DC Ranno they saw light smoke coming from the roof but it quickly stopped. When the companies made entry into the 1st floor the fire rapidly advanced. The fire was in a 3 story wood-framed balloon framed contruction. The fire appears to have gone from the 1st floor up into the attic. The home was built in the 1900's and four families lived in the home at the time. Mutual aid was quickly called and the City of Fitchburg sent an Engine and a Tower Ladder directly to the fire. Once the 2nd and 3rd alarm was sounded mutual aid came from the Towns of Sterling and Shirley to the fire. It took firefighters around 1 hour to bring the blaze under control. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for minor burns. The fire remains under investigation. The bottom 12 pics were taken by Mikey when he got home from school. He missed the heavy fire conditions.
