When the call came in it was a street box pull. Then fire alarm received a call from the homeowner (a ret.Leominster Fire Lieutenant) stating he had a fire in the wall around the chimney. Engines 3, 4 Ladder 1 and Rescue 1 along with C4 responded. On arrival smoke was visible from the roof line area as well as the bricks on the side. The working fire was struck sending Engine 2 with Fitchburg with an Engine and Truck to the fire.
Once the Engine 4 crew made the 2nd floor and realized that heavy fire was moving across the ceiling, extra lines were being stretched and a 2nd alarm was struck bringing another Engine from Fitchburg, and an Engine from Sterling and Leominsters Heavy Rescue and Engine 5 to the fire.
The condo that burned is attached to an old factory that is now both apartments and condos. The fire did a considerable amount of damage to the original unit as well as the unit to the other side. The other part of the building had smoke throughout. No injuries were reported.
