Fitchburg dispatched an Engine for smoke in the area around the upper common when fire alarm received a call for a fire on Chestnut St. The assignment was filled out and E4 arrived with smoke showing from a vacant 2 story building. Firefighters under the command of Deputy Chief Paul Vallincourt arrived as heavy smoke was pushing from the 1st and 2nd floors.<p>Firefighters did an excellent job bringing this blaze under control within 30 minutes. One firefighter was treated for a minor eye injury. The cause is undetermined at this time.
